Durga Puja Organised by ‘The Royal Berkshire Bengali Association’ (RBBA), Slough, England
RBBA’s Sarbojonin Durga Puja 2013
The RBBA Story
Every year during the month of October, Maa Durga descends on this earth with her children from her heavenly abode, and for 5 days she is reunited with millions of devotees who celebrate this joyous homecoming of the Mother with worship, prayers, fun, food, music and warmth as befits the glorious occasion.
We at ‘The Royal Berkshire Bengali Association’ (RBBA), based in Slough, have been hosting our mega event Durga Puja since year 2009. Our humble journey began in year 2009 when a group of Bengali professionals residing in the Royal County dreamt of their own Puja to be celebrated in a unique way. A lot of hard work, planning and execution and a healthy dollop of passion and drive made our first Puja hugely successful. Our guests loved the homely warm ambience and the genuine hospitality of the RBBA members as they welcomed each and every one with what is now considered RBBA signature hospitality. This would not have been possible without the love and support of our guests who grace our Puja pandal in multitudes every year and have taken our RBBA puja from strength to strength.
Last year we hosted our 4th Sarbojonin Durga Utsav in a beautiful marquee reminiscent of Puja Pandals back in India and the appreciative response from our guests has given us our motto of – ‘DesherPujoBideshe ‘. Durga Puja is a time of rejuvenation with the energy Ma Durga imparts in us all and as we revel and celebrate we also renew old ties, make new ones and lose our selves in the aura of happiness that surrounds us all.
This year, over 5 days, from MahaShasti to MahaDashami, we celebrate a milestone – 5 glorious years that has seen us blossoming from a tender sapling to a young strapping plant well rooted, drenched with love, support and spirit of the community at large. The Puja will be held at the Slough Hockey Club, Off Upton Court Road and will have the usual highlights of fabulous food cooked by our in house chefs, musical performances by local and overseas artists and the Puja performed by our dedicated RBBA members who perform the rituals and ceremonies with great devotion and focus.
Dr Atanu Dutta, President RBBA says “OurPuja which began 5 years ago has transcended all barriers and has truly become a Puja – Of the People, for the People, By the People”.
We are already mapping our future journey as we have welcomed many new members on board who bring with them a fresh approach, new ideas and great morale.
We are now looking forward to welcoming everyone to come and celebrate our 5th Sarbojonin Utsav from the 10th to the 14th of October 2013!!
