I am 2nd Generation overseas born Bengali. Can someone tell me why most Bengali Durga pooja murtis have Chinese eyes? No one in my family nor cousins nor any of the Bengalis we know have Chinese eyes, so I cannot understand unless they are made in China like the Guru Nanaks you see running around.

  3. Your observation that "most Bengali Durga pooja murtis" have chinese eyes is not correct…may be of the ones that you have seen 🙂 But, people here have been experimenting a lot with new styles and themes…many well knows artists and students from art colleges are actively involved in this evolution…as a result of this, you can see Maa Durga in various avatars…both modern and classical.

Don't worry, Chinese are no match for the artists/sculpture artists/idol maker of Kumartuli, Kolkata 🙂
